“Traveling with Sun Siboro didn’t feel like booking a tour agency. It felt like visiting an old friend who happens to know every hidden viewpoint and story in Sumatra.”
Chapter 1: The Rainforest Sanctuary of Bukit Lawang
Our journey began as our driver picked us up from Medan airport. Instead of rushing onto highway stops, Boro arranged a gentle drive into the green hills of Bukit Lawang. Walking into the Gunung Leuser rainforest the next morning, we saw a mother orangutan and her baby moving gracefully through the canopy high above us. Boro’s respect for the jungle and strict eco-rules ensured we kept a respectful distance while capturing memories we will treasure forever.

Chapter 2: Highland Cool & Volcanic Vistas in Berastagi
From the humid rainforest, we climbed into the refreshing highland air of Berastagi. We stopped at a vibrant market filled with passionfruit, marquisa, and fresh local herbs. Boro introduced us to Karo culture and explained the geological history of Mount Sibayak. Standing near Sipiso-piso waterfall as mist rose off the cliff edge was breathtaking.

Chapter 3: Samosir Stillness & The Family Table Dinner
Crossing Lake Toba by wooden boat brought an instant sense of calm. On Samosir, we explored ancient Batak villages and traditional stone tombs with zero crowd noise. The crowning moment came on our final evening: Boro invited us into his family home for a private home-cooked dinner prepared by his wife. Sharing freshly caught Lake Toba fish, authentic Rendang, and homemade sambal while listening to local Batak legends at their dining table was genuine, warm, and deeply touching.
